MARTYS READER RIDES

Meet John S. Thomas

John was born in December of '62 and has lived in Alaska and Montana, but grew up living mostly in Portland, Oregon. Currently, here in Portland, John specializes in warehousing work when not working on his next books. John wrote "Marty and the Motorcycle" for his youngest son who is ADHD and has reading problems. To help encourage Troy's efforts in reading, John went looking for books about his favorite subject of motorcycles. Finding a couple of chapter books about kids and motorcycles and only one story book that had a motorcycle theme to it (a Muppet's based book), he crafted his own story here and decided to try for publishing.

After being rejected by all the standard publishers who saw his story, John decided to self-publish and share this wonderful adventure with everyone. A few of John's good friends believed in this potential and have invested money they don't really have to bring the story to life. This support and the professional illustrations of Kristi Petosa and artist Ron Miles has helped John create a dream to share with you.

Currently, John is working hard to distribute this first book and finish the next two: Marty Learns to Ride and Marty's Motorcycle ABC's (coming sometime next year).
